Xanga

O.K., first off, this site is for HGS members. When I run a contest or have new information, I'll post it on here. Here are the winners of my Poem Contest :

These are in order, the one on top is the first place, and so on...

The teacher stood and shook his head,
"I can't go on," He sadly said,
We sat and watched him, no one moved,
He wouldn't go till his point was proved.
"Today we hope to learn and see,
What pain it caused to others and me."

A little boy stood up to say,
"But what are we going to learn today?"
The teacher smiled and looked at the floor,
"Today we are learning about the war."
He looked at us and we all looked back,
"I'll tell you about the D-day attack"

"The beaches were bare and cold and bland,
preparing for hundreds of ships to land,
The Germans stood guard, ready to fight,
Nothing could prepare for that awful sight,
The sight of death and man killing man,
Those who could, risked it and ran."

"My Dad was amongst those fine brave men,
I was only young, barely ten,
But still to this day i remember his face,
"Don't worry, he said, it's only a race,
England will win, till then goodbye,
Smile my son, please don't cry."

The teacher talked about England's win,
And the Jews who died for Hitler's sin,
At the end of the lesson we were glad to go,
We all filed out, row by row,
But on the way out i stopped to find,
An answer i needed to settle my mind.

I turned to the teacher and cleared my throat,
He gathered his bag and his sheets and his coat,
"I heard what you said and something's alack,
What of your Dad? Did he ever come back?"
He shook his head, proud and clear,
But down his cheek slid a single tear.

Your Once In a Lifetime
My tail flicks to and fro as I get more excited
Entering the ring, we become completely united
My rider and I, we are one together
Flying coat tails, the smell of sweet leather
But I am not the usual breed, No no I am unique
My tail is flowing, my body is sleek
My legs are graceful, my hooves are long
My ears are pricked forward, the show ring is where I belong
With a shank in my mouth and bright colored browband
A whoop and shout from the crowd is all I demand
The louder you cheer, the more my feet leave the ground
With each step that I take, my heart is abound
We walk trot and canter, each more breathtaking than the last
Then finally a voice says "set em’up", it is then that I finally show my true class
Hooves going everywhere as I fly by at the rack
My rider urging me on as she’s forced to sit back
I start to protest as she pulls back and trots me into line
My muscles straining and pulling as my coat begins to shine
Then I stand stock still, my legs set back in the park
Head held high, nose tucked in, my tail flowing in a graceful arc
The tension builds as we wait for the placing
My body is tense and my heart is racing
You may think I cannot hear, but you are wrong
My goal is first place, that is where I belong
When the voice finally projects, we end up on top
She urges me to the middle with a flick of her crop
A gorgeous ribbon, a proud rider above
Only one breed can how you this true loyalty and love
Only one breed can pull away from the pack, and come out ahead
I am your once in a lifetime, I am an American Saddlebred

I'll Be There by Amanda (Expressa)

When your sadness gets the best of you
and the pain is too hard to bare,
In the quiet of the moment close your eyes
and I'll be there.

When your smile begins to fade and loneliness sinks in,
think of the memories we share,
and rays of happiness will shine
because I'll be there.

When thoughts of me bring a smile
or a beautiful sunrise causes you to stare,
in the soft nicker of another
I'll be there.

So when you feel all alone
and your heart is full of despair,
remember when the gates of Heaven open you'll see me again
because that's where I'll be waiting, I'll be there.

The Win

The silver lined saddle was lifted from the sweating back,
Her smiled shone like the twinkling of the stars.
The horse turned its head and nickered to say "thank you"
With a soft touch she gave him a soothing kiss.

Clip, Clop, Clip, Clop the hooves sounded on the floor,
The girl tied the exhausted horse to the cold metal hook.
Heat rose from its muscling back as the water flowed,
It’s head lowered and a silent sigh was heard.

He gleamed with pride when the girl said she was done,
He held his head high like he knew he had won.
Their years of hard work had finally paid off,
They were champions, the same as Big Ben.

Congratulations, good job, hung in the air,
The smile and pride were glued to the team.
She returned him to his thick-bedded stall,
Where honor could be found.

With lustrous posses they accepted their award,
Still tired from their busy day before.
As they headed home her eyes grew heavy,
She dreamt about her glorious partner the black stallion,
Romeo Sheik

the staedy ringing of her hooves,
the sharpness of her faces grooves,
caught the beauty of her breed,
a strong and willfull priceless steed.

people would flock to get a look,
people would bid and she was always took!
oh the value of the milkmans mare,
pulling her cart so happy and fair!

this was eight years ago,
now she plods with row over row,
an army of horses to the knackers they tred,
for now all the glaces were for the thoroughbred.

she was nothing, old, and fatigued
now know one wanted her famous breed,
she pulled a plough in day and night,
now with out the strength to fight,
as a man pulls the trigger on the gun,
that is it then, her life was done!

so next time you see a horse in pain
dying inside, with weight to gain,
make its life at least worthwhile,
its heart will sore and regain its smile.
